Visit La Cite De La Mer

It's raining here in Normandy, you don't know what to do? We have the solution. Go to Cherbourg and its Cité de la Mer. At 1h30 from the campsite, this is a must-see theme park in Normandy. Located in the former Gare Maritime Transatlantique, it is the Normandy tourist site dedicated to the maritime world. The Cité de la Mer is divided into four main areas : an aquarium, « the Ocean of the Future », an exhibition on the Titanic, an animation on the exploration of the great sea depths « We walked under the sea » and the visit of the « Redoutable » nuclear submarine for a 45 minute immersive tour with the help of an audio guide. Very well known in Normandy, it attracts more than 200 000 visitors each year.

Playful, especially with children, during the visit, you will board the Redoutable, the largest visitable submarine in the world. The tour of the submarine is done with the help of an audio guide and lasts 45 minutes. It's very intuitive, you really discover the life of the crews on board. Please note, children under 5 years old cannot access the submarine for safety reasons.

Then head to the Ocean Pole with 17 basins, including the 11 m deep Abyssal Aquarium to observe more than 1000 fish of all. In the Titanic area, you can relive the crossing of the mythical liner, from its stopover in Cherbourg until the tragic night of the shipwreck. Finally, the attraction « We walked under the sea », is an attraction from a simulator that will appeal to the little ones.

To make the most of the park, allow around 5 hours to visit, but you can also stay there for the day. You will find picnic areas, a restaurant and a snack bar in high season. A shop with souvenir items, regional products ... completes the visit. Don't forget your camera to capture these family moments !

After visiting the Cité de la Mer, this is the perfect opportunity to visit the Cotentin where there is so much to discover ! Between the Val de Saire with Cap Lévi, the Gatteville lighthouse, Barfleur having obtained the « Plus Beau Village de France » label and Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, « Village Préféré des français » without forgetting Ile Tatihou and the on the other side with La Hague, the cliffs of the Nez de Jobourg, Port Racine, the smallest port in France or the dunes of Biville, your day will be full ! The city of Cherbourg is also very pleasant to discover.

A visit not to be missed during your stay with us.
