Villedieu-les-Poêles

At 20 minutes from our campsite, you will find the town of Villedieu-les-Poêles, copper capital located in the heart of the Channel. This city is one of the essential stops for craft tourism in Normandy. During your stay at our campsite, on a rainy day, you don't know what to do ?

Don't hesitate to visit the two main attractions of this city: the Fonderie de Cloches and the Atelier du Cuivre. Indeed, this city is known and renowned for its bells factory. Also recognized by the « Ville et Métiers d'Art » label, in particular for its artisanal tradition around copper : brasswork, boiler making, foundry ...

The Cornille Havard Foundry is the heir to a long tradition of founders installed in Villedieu-les-Poêles since the Middle Ages. About a hundred bells are build each year. It is this foundry that made the bells for Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.

The Atelier du Cuivre is one of the oldest workshops in the city of Villedieu-les-Poêles in activity. During your stopover in this city, you can visit the Atelier du Cuivre and discover the techniques of copper manufacturing.

In addition to the Fonderie de Cloches and the Atelier du Cuivre, which remains the two essential places to visit Villedieu, there is also the Musée du Meuble Normand which presents an exceptional collection of around 150 pieces of typical furniture of the five Norman departments. There is also the Musée de la Poeslerie and Maison de la Dentellière in the Cour du Foyer which is one of the most typical and famous courtyards in the city. In this museum, there are beautiful lace from Villedieu but also objects related to copper work.

During your visit to Villedieu, do not hesitate to get lost in the city to discover typical streets and the 39 courtyards-workshops, the curiosities of the city which is full of treasures combining the history and as well the heritage or nature.

The city holds the « Villes et Métiers d'Art », label whichs promote the municipalities of France that invest in promoting and diversity of crafts in their city. So, the label promotes in the city of Villedieu, its exceptional sites. Over time, many artists and designers have settled there, creating a district of fine crafts in pop-up shops. They then open their workshop to the public to showcase their know-how. We find there pottery, lace, jewelry making ...
Moreover, every year is held the Festival of Crafts organized as part of the European Days of Crafts.

A visit to this city is therefore not to be missed if you are passionate about crafts and history !
